FRIDAY APRIL 17th - 9:00am-10:30am Elliot Stern, the Academic Superintendent for middle schools in Boston, accompanied by Carrie Hickey, Assistant Academic Superintendent, and Jeff Slater, a middle school principal, will share leadership challenges faced in the network they created for middle school principals. This network is working to break-down traditionally disconnected and even competitive relations among principals. As part of the network, principals observe classes in one another's schools, coach each other on deep challenges and problems of practice, and work across boundaries with one another in unprecedented ways.
FRIDAY APRIL 24th - 9:00am-10:30amWilliam Snyder, consultant, scholar, practitioner and co-author with Etienne Wenger of Cultivating Communities of Practice (2002) will be the guest for the final session. Mr. Snyder will draw on his experiences in several different networks to integrate and synthesize some of the leadership challenges he sees in this arena. The final session will also be an opportunity for network participants to reflect on their learnings from this series of discussions, provide feedback, and plan any next steps.
